Week Three
St John’s Priory Update January 29th 2010
Dear Parents
Mrs Tina Timms
We said farewell to Mrs Tina Timms today after ten years of loyal service to the school. The boys and girls presented her with cards which each year group had made and there were presents and flowers from the Parents Association and from the School. Ben Phillipson and Abie Peer read moving eulogies to her famous bike! She has worked tirelessly for the school and has always been exceptionally kind and caring to the boys and girls. She will be sorely missed. We hope she will continue to keep in touch and we wish her every success in her new job.
Music
On Wednesday we had our second Coffee Concert which was a tremendous success. The children performed extremely well and it was pleasing to see a growing self-confidence. It was also very encouraging to see performers right through from Years 1 to 6, showing a real strength and depth, which bodes well for the future of music at SJP. Many thanks to David Richardson and Kate for the organisation. Our School Orchestra is also up and running and we look forward to hearing them play in the near future.
Vikings
Today we have been invaded by Vikings! Year 2 have enjoyed an action packed day learning what it was like to be a Viking. Everyone dressed for the part and looked fantastic. See the website for the latest photos.
Dance Show
The Dance Show is now rapidly approaching. As the dancers lost valuable rehearsal time due to the snow at the beginning of term, they are having an extra slot on Monday 1st February. Could all the dancers taking part bring their dancing shoes to school on Monday?
Clothing Sale.
Bijoux, a children’s clothing shop run by some of our parents will be selling some sale items on Thursday 4th February after school outside the Office. A donation from the proceeds will go to the children of Haiti.
Baby and Toddler Group
Our new baby and Toddler Group starts this Thursday afternoon. Please do come along for a cup of tea and a chat. Parents will be asked to enter via the front door and the group will be held in the Hall. If any parents have any unwanted toys (particularly baby) they would like to donate to the group they would be most gratefully received. Please contact Kate for further details.
Warwick Art Exhibition
We are delighted to again be displaying some of the artwork of our talented students at this year's Exhibition of Young Local Artists, being held at Warwick School. We are unfortunately restricted to just three submissions, so we have decided to include two group projects this year. The three pieces that will be displayed are Year 3's interpretation of Pierre-Auguste Renoir's 'The Umbrellas'; Jemimah Thomas' 'credit card' canvas; and the L S Lowry inspired 'A Street In Clitheroe', painted by Izabella Barr, Abi O'Meara and Claudia Wilson, featuring clay figures by other Year 6 pupils.
Friends and family of all artists taking part are most welcome to come along to the official opening of the exhibition being held at the Bridge House Theatre, Warwick School, on Saturday 6th February between 11.00am and 1.00pm. The Exhibition is then open to the general public from the 8th - 20th February, (closed on 14th February). For further details call Warwick School on 01926 776400.
New Club for Years 1 and 2
We will be offering children in Year1 and 2 a new and exciting Games club starting after half term. The children will be taking part in lots of fun and diverse activities and games. The club will run on Thursday afternoons from 3.30-4.10pm. Please contact Kate if you would like your child to take part.
Dance Lessons for Saplings
We are delighted to be able to extend our dance lessons to the Saplings children to commence next half term. Movement is a vital part of education and helps in all areas of learning. The lessons will be with Mrs Foster on Thursday mornings. There will be a charge for these lessons If you would like your child to take part or for more information, please contact Mrs Luckett.
A Special Thank you
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank parents for the recommendations they have been making to friends and acquaintances when they are looking at schools. We have had several prospective parents this week who have come as a result of our parents talking well about the school. This is invaluable to us and much appreciated.
