Weekly Update

Easter Holiday

St John's Priory Update April 12th 2010

A new term

At long last we seem to be seeing the first welcome signs of spring. We are very much looking forward to the summer term, the sound of leather on willow and hopefully some decent weather. I am sure the children will be keen to wear their summer uniform, but if you feel in the early part of the term that it is still not yet warm enough, please feel free to send them in winter uniform.

Hot lunches

Further to my announcement at the end of last term, we will commence hot lunches on May 4th , immediately after the Bank Holiday. This is the earliest our caterers, Limes Farm are able to accommodate us. We are all very excited about this new partnership. One of the deciding factors in choosing Limes Farm was that they are keen to become really involved with the School and the curriculum. Consequently, they are offering both a Gardening Club and, for the older boys and girl a Young Farmers' Club which will allow them to experience and learn about many aspects of modern farming.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Immediately after half term we will be assessing candidates for internal scholarships. We are offering academic, music, drama, art, sports and all-rounder scholarships. It is highly unlikely that we will make awards to boys or girls below Year 3 except under exceptional circumstances. A full timetable, description of the assessments and an application form will be available shortly. The objective is to provide motivation and support for our most talented children and a degree of prestige. The financial reward will be inevitably small. Parents with other financial needs should apply for bursarial support. An application form is available from the School Office.

Parents'Association Dinner Dance

Many thanks to everyone who supported our Dinner Dance at the end of term. It was a wonderful occasion and a most fitting send off for Sue Luckett. Special thanks go to Kate and Jane and Paul Weaver for all the organisation. The PA raised £421 from the raffle on the night. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated prizes. In response to the numerous guests who asked, we will definitely be doing another one next year!

Blenheim Palace Battle Proms

Kate and I would like to extend a very warm invitation to all friends and families of SJPS to join us for a big picnic and enjoy the Blenheim Palace Battle Proms on July 17 th, which includes historic re-enactments, a Spitfire display, cannons and cavalry, fireworks and a celebration of classical music. We have negotiated a special SJPS discount £23 for adults and £15 for children but we need to book before the end of April. Please let me know if you would like to join us. It should be a great night for all the family. The more the merrier! For more information, have a look at www.battleproms.com .
