Class trips
Years 1 and 2 visit St John's Museum, Warwick

In September Years 1 and 2 visited St John’s Museum in Warwick. Year 1 were interested in experiencing what a laundry was like in Victorian times. The children had the opportunity to pump water and help with the washing. They discovered that it was very hard work!

Year 2 went back in time and became pupils in a Victorian school. Here are two reports written by Daisy and Edward.

We went on a coach to the Warwick museum on Wednesday. When we got there first we dressed in Victorian clothes. The girls wore pinafores and the boys wore sailor collars. The boys said the girls looked funny but the girls did not think they did. When we were all ready we started to act with a teacher. Then she rang a bell and we went into an old fashioned class room and it had wooden benches and wooden chairs for the monitors, Zac and I. The chairs were stuck on the desks. It was not comfortable on them and I did not like sitting on them. We did reading but it was not like we do reading now. They did not have colour in the books. Anouska got given a medal by the vicar’s wife and the vicar’s wife checked the boys’ ears and the girls’ nails. It was a bit funny but it was what they used to do in the olden days. It was a long time in the room. Then we came out and we went to the shop. I had fun.

We arrived at St John’s museum inn Warwick. First we went into the Victorian school house. We got dressed up. All the boys wore sailor collars and all the girls wore pinafores. After that the bell rang which meant that we all had to go in. The monitors had chairs with backs and the others had wooden benches. First we said a prayer. The teacher took the register. Then the vicar’s wife came in. We said “Good morning ma’am.” Then we did drill and marching. Then we got back into the schoolroom andsat down. Johnnie had to have a back board. Then we read to the vicar’s wife. Zac read on his own. We played with some Victorian toys. There were lots of toys. Then we went into the shop. I bought some coins. Then we had lunch and after that went into the playground. I played on the spinning thing. I pushed it really fast. Then the coach took us back to school.
