Dear Parents,
This has been a short but busy term, and of late, very blustery!
Sports
A number of children have had the chance to represent the school this term in football and netball matches. Results were mixed but as ever the children gave their best and enjoyed themselves. I was very proud of the young Year 4/5 team we sent to the Bloxham netball tournament. The girls were younger and smaller than their opponents. However, they played incredibly well; with tremendous spirit.
Gymnastics
The Wade Gymnastics Competition was held last Saturday. Unfortunately a number of children were absent from the teams due to illness, especially in the middle age group. Despite this, the children performed well with Team 6 (Eleanor Blinkhorn, Johnnie Hand, Oscar Irvine and Abigail Giffin) taking gold and for individual performances Johnnie Hand got a gold, Anouska Strahnz a silver and Eleanor Blinkhorn achieved a bronze. In the older age group Team 29 (George Riley, Edward Owen, Joshua Addison-Adams and Lyndsey White) were awarded silver and George Riley achieved a gold. The competition was tough but the judges took into account the amount of time children train each week. The children enjoyed the occasion and join me in thanking the parents who helped out on the day.
Art
Once again we took part in the Warwick School ‘Exhibition of Young Local Artists’ held in February. Twenty eight schools entered the exhibition this year and we exhibited superb artwork by Chloe Coules, George Riley and Lyndsey White.
Music and Dance
The ballet and tap show, A Palette of Colour, held at Bloxham School was as spectacular as ever. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The dances were set to a mix of traditional and modern music and the costumes were delightful.
The Chamberlain Music Festival was held at the Warwick Arts Centre. This was a great opportunity for the children to perform in a large theatre. The woodwind ensemble was very impressive and the choir sang two beautiful pieces. Thank you to Mr Richardson for his hard work.
This year’s private music pupils’ recital was once again a wonderful opportunity for the children to demonstrate their varied musical talents. How brave of them to perform in such a manner. I, as many of you, was impressed by their skills and their support of one another.
The choir visited the Ridings on Monday and sang and played to a very appreciative audience. We were asked if we were a music school, as the children are so talented!
Fund Raising
Helen and Douglas House have been sent a cheque for £550. This includes the money raised by the bazaar and loose change money- which soon adds up!
Year 5 children led by William Beech held a cake sale to raise funds for helping families in Kenya. They raised £50.
We raised a staggering £290 for Katharine House Hospice by selling Easter chicks.
Collecting CDs and DVDs for Barnados. This collection has been launched by Blue Peter and our school’s involvement is initiated by Harris MacPherson in Year 3. So please, have a search through for any unwanted disks you may have.
Our Non-uniform day raised £150 for the Unicef Day for Change.
New Ventures
As you are probably aware we have been recycling paper and card for some time. The Year 6 prefects are responsible for collection and we are very grateful for their help! We have now begun to collect fruit and vegetable waste for composting. We feel it is important that as much waste as possible is recycled and it will be satisfying to produce compost for the school grounds. Year 5 launched the project with their posters. See the website for details.
Unfortunately, Mrs Davidson and Mrs Owen are no longer able to supply our children with packed lunches. I am extremely sorry that this is the case but realise that their undertaking was an immense one. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them on behalf of all those who benefited from their excellent service. In addition, I pass on the gratitude of pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 to Mr and Mrs Davidson for the delicious fish and chip lunch they provided on the day of the music festival. A resounding success!

Parents’ Association
A big thank you to Paul Weaver for producing a professional Parents’ Association newsletter. No need for me to report! However, thank you to all committee members for their efforts and support.
Looking forward
As well as the usual summer term events: sports days, concerts, summer fete and Year 6 trip to France there will be…
PGL trip
Years 4 and 5 will spend an exciting week at the Caythorpe Court PGL site in Grantham in April. A report and pictures will be on the website.
Puzzle Challenge Day
In June all pupils in Reception to Year 6 will take part in a Puzzle Challenge Day. They will encounter a variety of fun but challenging 3D hands-on puzzle tasks, which they have to compete in teams. It should be fun and we are hoping this will provide a springboard for the proposed philosophy club.
Festival of Voices
As well as the Priory taking part in the tapestry, the choir has been invited to sing in the Festival of Voices at St Mary’s Church on Tuesday 24 June. This is part of the Banbury 400 Charter celebrations. Details to follow.
Good news! A drinking fountain is to be fitted into the playground – as requested by the school council.
Please keep checking the news section of our website, as we are planning to regularly update you with aspects of curriculum coverage across the year groups.
Kind regards,
Sarah Clacher
