14 April 2008
We are all very sorry that Sarah Clacher will be retiring at the end of this term. Sarah has worked extremely hard over the last two years to maintain the high standards at the Priory and she will be missed by parents, pupils and staff alike.
However, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Susan Holding BA (Hons), PGCE as Headmistress of St John’s Priory with effect from September 2008.
Susan, who lives in Banbury, has enjoyed a distinguished career as a teacher and as a senior manager within the educational publishing sector. She is currently teaching at a primary school in Buckinghamshire where she has special responsibility for Information and Communications Technology. As a mother of two preparatory school children she knows first-hand the expectations of parents and values greatly the need for appropriate pastoral support and excellent relationships with parents.
Over the past month, we have been engaged in a campaign to attract the best possible candidates for this exciting position. Chamberlain Schools recently engaged the support of John Gibson, an experienced preparatory school Headmaster of some twenty years standing. John led the campaign and pre-interviewed a large number of candidates before presenting the best to an interviewing panel, which included a Priory parent, Sarah Clacher and me.
Susan’s appointment was the unanimous decision of the panel members who were all impressed by her enthusiasm, warm personality and her vision for the future of the Priory.
During her interview, Susan highlighted her desire to continue the development of ICT. She particularly looks forward to researching the Priory’s current sports curriculum and to developing new initiatives within the school so that sport can be seen as a strength over the coming years.
I very much look forward to introducing you to Susan Holding at a cheese and wine evening later in the term. I am confident that we have been able to appoint an enthusiastic new Headmistress for the Priory who will inspire and nurture your children during their formative years.
In the meantime, I am sure you would like to join me in wishing Sarah a happy retirement.
Yours sincerely
Simon Chamberlain
